Hardware Research Assignment
In this assignment we were told to pick a hardware device and research and become experts on it.The hardware device I chose to research was the scanner. There were a few things I learned while doing this assignment. First of all Iearned how scanners work.
Document placed on glass, cover closes
Lamp illuminates document
Scan head moves across the document by a belt
Image is reflected by angled mirrors
Last mirror reflects image onto a lens
Lens focuses image through a filter on the CCD array
I also learned about the different specifications a scanner can have. There are different types of scanners aswell. There are sheetfed scanns and flatbed scanners. There are also two different types of interface connectivity. One is firewire which is found on high-end scanners and is faster, and the other is USB 2.0 which is more affordable, has ease of use and good speed. I also learned about other specifications like max document size, optical resolution and power sources.

PC Purchase Assignment

In this assignment we were given the task to create our own personal computer. We were asked to think about what we would need in a current computer and future computer and design it specifically for our needs. We were also given a firm budget that had to be kept. For my computer this is what I thought I would need.
From a computer today I will need a fairly large hardware, a good amount of RAM and a fast CPU. For my personal use a decent graphics card will be needed to run games smoothly. A nice set of speakers for music will also be a good investment. A webcam with a built in microphone will also be a good buy if a situation where voice chat or video calling arises. In the next few years a few extra slots for hard drives would be a good choice as it would be easy to upgrade if needed. Starting off with a lot of HDD space would be easier though as an upgrade would not be necessary. A comfortable mouse and keyboard will be needed so that use of the computer is not uncomfortable over time. A good fan is necessary to make sure the CPU does not overheat during pro-longed use, or after years of use. Two important parts of the computer I bought were an Intel Desktop Board BOXDZ68BC Socket 1155 Intel Z68 Chipset 2xSATA 6.0GB/s 3xSATA 3.0GB/s 2xUSB 3.0 6xUSB 2.0 GLAN 8-Channel Audio ATX motherboard at $229.99 and a Intel Core i7-2700K Quad-Core Socket LGA1155, 3.50Ghz, 8MB L3 Cache, 32nm (Retail Boxed) cpu at $349.99
